"Melita Norwood"

"Before she was catapulted into the public eye in September 1999, Melita Norwood lived in complete obscurity, a secretary who had worked at the Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association in London and was known to her neighbours as a “lovely old lady” who produced homemade jam. Yet Norwood was one of the Soviet Union’s longest-serving spies and the most important British female agent to be recruited by the KGB."

This name has been stuck with me since 1999, if often pops back into my head on a weekly basis. I guess because there is something nice about the sound of the name, plus it's a great story of how sweet little old ladies are not always what they seem...

"Hootchie" and "Hootchie Mama"

Hootchie prostitute like, trashy, fowl talking, provocative dressing/clothing, loud, appearing confident but stupid. Term used in the US mostly for women. Hootchie"What a hootchie mama, she used to be a ho" or "Man, that ho had some tight hootchie!"

I blame day time television for this word but mostly I blame the Ricky Lake Show and those Hootchie Mama's! (And I was just flicking to find the News of course!)

"Androgynous"

Androgynous adj 1: relating to or exhibiting both female and male sex organs but with a predominantly female appearance 2: of or related to androgenesis

I wholeheartedly blame Tara Palmer Thomkinson for the continual reappearence of this word in my head. She once described herself as this in an episode of "I'm a Celebrity, GET ME OUT OF HERE!" and since then every time she appears in the public eye in some way thats it, ANDROGYNOUS all day, round and round. I think its very apt however, she is this and a bit sinewy too. And who would sleep with James Blunt, the very idea, yuck. Maybe she's deaf.

"Pomade"

"Pomade is a greasy or waxy substance used to style the hair. Unlike hair spray and hair gel, pomade does not dry and often takes several washings to get it out of the hair. Most pomades contain petroleum jelly (and in fact petroleum jelly may be used alone as a pomade) and mineral oil, and many also contain some sort of wax. They may also contain perfume and coloring agents. The origin of the word is from the French word for apple (pomme), as the original purpose of pomade was to impart the smell of apples or other fruits to the hair."

I think I picked up this word after staring at a tin of the stuff in a friends bathroom.
